Thursday Movie Picks #79: Post-Apocalyptic World

For the second Thursday Movie Picks of 2016 it is Post-Apocalyptic World - http://wanderingthroughtheshelves.blogspot.co.uk/

Turbo Kid is set in a post apocalyptic 1997 where a superhero wannabe (Munro Chambers) attempts to rescues his female robotic friend  (Laurence Leboeuf) from the clutches of the evil warlord, Zeus (Michael Ironside).

It's very much an ode to kids movies and action movies of the 1980s (the film even has cheesy special effects that wouldn't look out of place in the 80s) and the synth-led soundtrack couldn't be more 80s.

The film's post apocalyptic has a very strong Mad Max vibe and it also even makes references to Science Fiction classics such as Solent Green and Waterworld as the film's villain (played brilliantly by a scene stealing Michael Ironside) was greatly similar to Dennis Hopper's villain in Waterworld.

It's very much worth a watch

Stakeland is another post apocalyptic film that's very much worth a watch, in this wasteland vampires are roaming the landscape of a destroyed planet Earth. The plot revolves around a young boy who is taken under the wing of a Vampire hunter.

This Japanese amine from the 80 is a perfect example of the spectacular imagination that has been a massive part of the genre. The world has not been what it once was for almost 1000 years, now it's full of giant mutant insects.

This is NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind, I did forget to translate the title. Oops!

  1. Never heard of any of them. Maybe I'll give the Japanese anime a try

  2. I haven't seen the other two, but I love that you chose Stakeland. I was expecting it to be so cookie cutter and it never felt that way. What is the title of the anime though? I'd like to check that out.

  5. Just saw Stake Land a few months ago. Really enjoyed it. The poster for Turbo Kid makes it look awful. I'll probably steer clear. That anime looks and sounds interesting. What's the title?
