Thursday Movie Picks: Dance Movies (excluding all musicals or movies based on musicals)

Another Thursday Movie Picks for you, this time it's dance movies but they can't musicals or based on musicals. - http://wanderingthroughtheshelves.blogspot.co.uk/

Much like the film Magic Mike, The Full Monty is about male strippers, yes they make not be as attractive or well built as Channing Tatum and co and The Full Monty may concentrate more on the economic change from a manufacturing economy to a service economy but they still both have male strippers. I first watched this British comedy classic at school and when my mate asked what film we watched his reply to my answer was "sounds gay". He grew up since then. Anyway, this is a British classic is well worth a watch.

Apparently, one of the producers of Footloose thought that Kevin Bacon wasn't good looking enough to be cast in the lead role...um...I'm not quite sure I agree with him here. Footloose, whilst not Bacon's first film, was undoubtedly the film that shot him in the realms of international stardom but also years of typecasting and an eventual slight career slump. Hugely popular and up there with the likes Dirty Dancing in terms of popularity in the Dance Movie Genre, Footloose is great fun.

It takes some talent to make a interest or hobby that is popular among many young girls into something terrifying and disturbing but at times hypnotic and beautiful (the cinematography during the dance sequences is something special), it really is quite a wild ride of emotions. It is dancing like you've never seen it before.

  1. Black Swan is great. The Full Monty was a solid comedy. I know I've seen every part of Footloose, just never all at once. Sadly, I did see the dreadful remake, though. Excellent picks.

    1. Haha, I saw the remake too. Have yet to watch the original. They tried to keep the original's whole dancing banning thing but in the present day in the remake and it was just too unbelievable.

  2. Oh man, The Full Monty. I had no idea that was a remake to be honest. I thought it was pretty funny though. LOVE Black Swan! Great picks!

    1. Is it? I don't think it is. I just compare to Magic Mike because they are both have male strippers. The remake the other two were talking about was Footloose.

    2. I believe it won the Original Screenplay Oscar so...not a remake ;-)

  5. LOVE The Full Monty! Black Swan is everywhere this week, which makes me happy since it's brilliant. Who in their right mind would think Kevin Bacon wasn't attractive enough to be the lead in Footloose? He's PERFECT in that movie. Yeah, I saw the remake. No, it's nowhere near as good.

    1. Yeah, I didn't expect it to be. Why remake something with such an enduring appeal to people of the 80s?

  7. I love BLACK SWAN, I like FULL MONTY but FOOTLOOSE I find to be overrated. Same with its remake. By the way, what did you think of the remake?

  8. Another post for BLACK SWAN, I really need to see that one. Couldn't agree more with your thoughts on FOOTLOOSE, I thought Kevin Bacon was perfect in the lead for that one. As a heterosexual male, I'm going to skip THE FULL MONTY..and MAGIC MIKE for that matter, sorry.

    1. Haha, Despite my comments on male attractiveness concerning Channing Tatum and Kevin Bacon I too am a heterosexual male, I just feel comfortable admitting a man is good looking.

  9. Great choices. Black Swan uses its dances to such wonderful effect to move its story. It's been a while since I've seen Full Monty but it's gentle story makes it special. Footloose is pretty ridiculous but it has an infectious spirit that makes it easy to overlook its flaws.
